취리히에서 체르마트 가는 길, 잠깐 멈춘 도시 베른
이번 스위스 여행 중 가장 만족스러운 선택 중 하나는, 체르마트 가는 길에 베른에 잠깐 들른 것이었다. 스위스 패스를 사용해서 당일치기 원데이 투어가 가능했고, 역에 도착하자마자 라커에 캐리어 넣고 바로 투어 시작!
베른이라는 도시는 정말 중세 유럽 동화책에 나올 것 같은 모습. U자 형태로 흐르는 아레 강에 둘러싸여 있고, 비 오는 날도 젖지 않도록 설계된 석조 아케이드 골목들이 이어진다. 특히 베른은 1405년의 대화재 이후 석조로 도시를 재건해 오늘날까지 그 독특한 분위기를 간직하고 있다.
도시 이름의 전설 – 곰(Bear)에서 유래?
전해지는 이야기로는, 베른이라는 이름은 체링겐 가문의 공작이 사냥을 나갔다가 처음 만난 동물(곰)의 이름에서 유래했다고 한다. 그래서인지 도시 곳곳에서 곰의 상징을 많이 볼 수 있었다.

베른 역에서 도보로 걸어가다 보면 멀리서도 대성당의 뾰족한 첨탑이 눈에 들어온다.
그 높이만 해도 100.6m, 스위스에서 가장 높은 교회 첨탑이다.

초기 설치: 1726년 현재 사용 중인 오르간은 1990년 복원된 바흐 스타일, 총 5,404개의 파이프 탑재 내부가 조용할 때, 오르간 소리 울리면 진짜 소름
종교개혁과의 역사
베른은 종교개혁 시대의 핵심 도시 중 하나로, 베른대성당은 루터교(개신교)로 전환되었다.
그 여파로 내부의 많은 성상과 조각들이 제거되었지만, 다행히 주요 예술 작품은 비교적 잘 보존되어 있다.

대성당 앞 광장에는 작지만 알찬 벼룩시장이 열린다.

"The Jewel of Switzerland with the essence of Gothic architecture"
Bern, a city that stopped briefly on the way from Zurich to Cermatt
One of the most satisfying choices for this trip to Switzerland was a short stop in Bern on the way to Cermatt. Using the Swiss pass, a one-day tour was possible, and as soon as I arrived at the station, I put my suitcase in the locker and started the tour right away!
The city of Bern looks like it would be in a European fairy tale book in the Middle Ages. It is surrounded by the Are River, which flows in a U-shape, and stone arcade alleys designed to prevent rainy days from getting wet. Bern, in particular, rebuilt the city with stone after the Great Fire of 1405, and retains its unique atmosphere to this day.
The Legend of the City Name – Originating from Bear?
According to legend, the name Bern came from the name of an animal that the Duke of Ceringen first met while hunting. Perhaps this is why many bear symbols were seen throughout the city.

As you walk from Bern Station, you can see the pointed spire of the cathedral from a distance.
Its height alone is 100.6m, the tallest church spire in Switzerland.

History of the Reformation Division
Bern was one of the key cities of the Reformation era, and Bern Cathedral was converted to Lutheran (Protestantism).
Many statues and sculptures inside were removed in the aftermath, but fortunately, the main works of art are relatively well preserved.
Bonus episode of travel – get it in a secondhand market!
A small but fruitful flea market will be held in the square in front of the cathedral.
A lightweight padded jacket worth 10 francs, which I was lucky to meet, helped me greatly throughout my trip to Switzerland. Isn't this the real beauty of travel?
